Explore Medicare Advantage Plans

If you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period for certain life changing events such as moving to a new service area, you may be able to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan.

There are a few times throughout the year when you may qualify to enroll.

First, your Initial Enrollment period is a 7-month window beginning 3 months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and three months after. If you were born on the 1st of the month, the enrollment period begins 4 months before your 65th birthday and ends 2 months after your birthday month.

If you miss this period and don't qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you may be able to enroll during the General Enrollment Period, from January 1 to March 31.

You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you meet specific qualifying situations such as losing employer health coverage. For more detailed information about when you can enroll, please visit our Learning Hub.

There are four parts to Medicare. These are Parts A & B, known as Original Medicare, Part C, and Part D. Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans include Part A and Part B and usually Part D. Part D can be purchased as a standalone Prescription Drug Plan with Original Medicare.

Medicare Part A helps cover inpatient hospital costs like room and board, and a limited stay in a skilled nursing facility. It also helps cover hospice care and home-health care. Part B helps cover medical expenses like doctor visits, outpatient care, and some medical supplies. It also helps cover some occupational and physical therapy, and some home-health care. Part B can also help with preventive care like exams, lab work, shots, tests, and screenings. Medicare Advantage and Part D are offered by private insurance companies.

Medicare Advantage plans combine all the benefits of Original Medicare (Parts A & B), and may have your Part D Prescription Drug plan built right in. Plus, some plans may include additional benefits. Medicare Advantage and Part D are offered by private insurance companies.

The cost of Original Medicare (Parts A and B) will depend on what you paid into Medicare taxes while working. Most people with Part A coverage don’t have a premium, while Part B’s expected standard cost is $202.90  per month for 2026 and $209.50  per month for 2027. Social Security can help you understand your Part B premium. 

Part C, or Medicare Advantage plans, have different monthly costs depending on the company and plan you choose. Prescription Drug plans in Part D will also have different costs based on plan choice.
